Dragonwatch Cottage

Welcome to the Owner’s Cottage — a secluded lakeside retreat where a private boathouse, direct water access, and the gentle hush of the surroundings invite days shaped by water, memory, and unhurried connection.

Built in 1898 on the grounds of a former lakeside golf club, the cottage carries quiet traces of its past; wander the surrounding woods and you may still come across century-old golf balls slowly returning to the earth. Today, it stands apart on its own stretch of Lake Massawippi, offering rare privacy and a sense of stepping into another rhythm of time.

Its name, Dragonwatch, nods to local legend—the elusive “Massawippi Monster”—and to the cottage’s singular vantage point. From the living room, wide windows open onto a sweeping view of the lake, as if designed for watchful stillness: a place to observe shifting light, passing weather, and perhaps something more mysterious beneath the surface.

Lakeside retreat on Lake Massawippi

Each room at Manoir Hovey isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s where time begins to loosen its grip. At dawn over Lake Massawippi, mist lifts slowly off the water, the kind of quiet that feels almost deliberate settling in around you. Light moves gently through the room, and without noticing, you begin to move differently too. Days aren’t planned here—they unfold. Yoga by the lake, a drink in the gardens, or nothing at all. Especially nothing at all.

By evening, the rhythm deepens. The infinity pool—heated year-round—extends into the lake like a disappearing line, blurring where nature ends and you begin. Inside, the library wraps you in wood, history, and the quiet presence of rare books. The spa softens everything else. What lingers isn’t luxury in the usual sense, but a rare precision: nothing excess, nothing missing, nothing rushed. And after a while, you realize—that was the point all along.
